i did i few samples to get an idea of where i wanted to head.
as this collection is for winter/fall, i started with what winter makes me think of and i found that you can buy fusable batting from the tech shop which means to dont have to pin the living daylight out of the fabric to quilt it
winter ideas
curled up under quilted blanket with hot choco watching the snow fall laxyly down the outside
wearing gumboots and running around jumping in puddles
capes and muffs
walking down the street all bundled up and warm with a umbrella/parasol watching the calm peaceful rain.
i come from chch so rain is pretty unuseal, cause we have problems with douit.
i also happen to be sensitive to light and heat so for me fall and winter are some of my favorite times just because i don't get burn alive and i love how when its raining and you have an umbrella/ or not it's like you in your own little world, and it's so nice and Serene. and how the world reflected in the water can be what ever you wish.
my first few samples were with the fusable batting, with some of my fabrics from last assginment
i experamented with line spacing and design, i found that the closer the lines the stiffer and less flexable the fabric got and losed abit of the quilted effect and the the further away the more flable but lostd abit of the effect for the opossite reson. the diamond mint thread quilted cupcake sample is one of my fave in this set as the line spacing is comfable and the mint contrast thread and diamond shape is pleaseing while still keeping the quilted effect.
because im thinking about whimsical fantasy and trying to soften the rigidity of the modern world i thought i might explore free hand emorborary, cause to me free hand emporary is free and whimsical and it knows its not the prettiest and fanciness thing out but it doesn't really care, like it revels in being it's self.
i think why i like freehand but am normaly to scard to do it my steff is probly cause i have a hard time when there isn't rules to follow because then i know if im doing something right, which for me it very important because i have aspergers,
this idea of rules is kind of what i was pokeing at in the first assginment, which i think is why im really happy with this sample because i was able to losen up and just run wild and free.
i toke the idea of quilting in a sence and had a go weaving pasell ble and pink ribbon together on my tabletly square
it toke a while it do because i dint have nails/hamer
so i had to push pins in and hope they stayed and that i had to unscew the foot and needle from the machine so i could get the hoop square under the foot to sew it.
the first secon is stitched between the ribbons and has the highest flexabley but has the problem that it gaps between the rows, the second secon is stitch between the ribbon and the y axle, this sovles the gabing problem but is less flexable,
and the third is stitched btween ribbon and on both x and y axles, and is the lest flexable the other problem that devloed was that with each extra line of stitching the surrface got ruffer.
with the second sample in this set i used pink ribbon with strips of cream mirco flease to try and fix the ruff problem from the last sample,
i just stitched btween the ribbon and flease for the first one to keep the soft and to fix the gapping, and the second secon was just stitched around the edges with the free hand heart in the middle, this second sample i feel fixs most of the problem from the first one namely -feel- gapping- inflexably
the umbrella to the top left was my first try to draw a motif using freehand, at this point i was still learning to let go of needing to stay prefectly on the line, so this sample was very help in this regard as i was able to see that i was never going to able to stay on the line and that it looked nicer then i didn't. the second sample is the appaled cloud with the free hand, i looked at applay in my first assginment but didn't really do much, so i thought i might play with it in comanation with freehand and some of this awsome squueee fur suede stuff i got from arthur toye.
I was worryed that the stitching would wreak the fur side but there was no problem with it.
i like the contrast betwwen the suede, and the dottly icecream sunday fabric with the mint thread freehand, i also liked the mix of hearts stars and raindrops with he mix of solid and line work.
this suede button quilt sample is one wear i toke the idea of buttons from my last assginment with the look of quilting and fur. because the sample from my last assgiment toke like 15 hours to do due to the fact that they were really close to each other and that there were so many. i picked the space and simple amount of buttons so the garment would not be too priced out of the market im going for .
