Casual Lolita

                                                                    Casual Lolita

Casual Lolita is, as the name implies, a more casual and toned down style suited for everyday wear. It's perfect for new Lolitas, as the coordinates are fairly simple, usually with a headbow, print t-shirt/cutsew, Lolita skirt, socks and Mary Janes. Mixing non-Lolita brand items with Lolita brand items is common. The importance of using a pannier is also not as overwhelming as with the other styles.

Depending on which Lolita style you prefer, the casual adaptions will look different. Two very popular brands for creating the Casual Lolita look are Jane Marple and Emily Temple Cute, as their items are cute, but also toned down compared to standard Lolita items.

The style is casual, and cute.

Your inspiration is Alice Deco à la Mode and Kera.
Casual adaptions will look different depending on which Lolita style it's based on (Ama, Gothic, Classic, etc).
The color scheme range from neutral shades to pastels.
Small amounts of lace, frills and ribbons.
Non-Lolita brand clothing is very often coordinated into this style.
Headdresses include style-specific ones, but are kept simple.
Simple cardigans are worn, often decorated with ribbons or small amounts of lace.
Simple cutsews and t-shirts, sometimes with a Lolita-related print.
Items such as turtleneck sweaters can easily be incorporated for a classy feeling.
Skirts are simple with frills, or a specific print to make the outfit pop.
Skirt length is standard knee-length to shorter skirts.
The Lolita silhouette is normally kept by a pannier, but is not always a priority.Knee/overknee socks, or tights.
Simple Mary Janes or suitable non-Lolita shoes.Accessories include style-specific ones, but are kept simple.
Bags are usually kept simple, often adorned with a ribbon.
Usually simple hairstyles, normally no wigs.Mascara.
Eyeliner if desired.Eyeshadow if desired.
Red or pink blush.Lipgloss/lipstick in red and pink hues.

Casual lolita has become very poplar lately, Ap has released some very pretty knits for casual that have helped the trend, that and casual has been more ok to wear
that nice thing about casual is that it can be compiled out of any colours, as long as you remember to match styles, colours and prints appropriately, so its far easyer to co-od with handmade and off-brand pieces.

casual also alows for a more eclectic style and blending with other styles and subfashions, eg. fairy kei and dolly/mori depending on what your base lolita style.

i think this style is what im going to heading towards, as the eclectic style blending, whimsical playfull mood and relaxed no fuss rules suit my concept,

i'm thinking of casual with a little sweet and fairy kei

♥Boystyle♥

♥Boystyle♥

Boystyle is just as varied as lolita ranging from the cute little-boy style of kodonas to the more sophisticated dandy or aristocrat. "Kodonas" might wear knickers (not the underwear!!!) with a proper blouse and a vest, while aristocrats would wear a whole suit; a suit like those from the Victorian Era, not a tuxedo.

These styles is often called "boystyle" as it involves more masculine clothing. In Japan they usually use Ouji (meaning prince) and not Kodona, that is a western term.
This style can be either laid back or very extravagant. Usually the people in this style are actually women and not men, but either can dress it. The men sometimes refer to themselves in this style as 'Dandy'. Sometimes this style has feminine touches, such as more feminine shoes and accessories.

Very common are 'prince pants' which are short capri-style pants that cut off at the knee and usually have some details on them (such as lace-edged cuffs). Other common additions are suspenders, ties (regular ties and bowties), bowler caps and long socks (to cover the legs). Some of the more extravagant styles can include things like spats, canes, top hats, capes, etc. But they keep the boyish part in tact so that they are not mistaken for Aristocrat.

Hair is often in a boyish style, often shorter. Those with longer hair tend to put their hair in a less-girly way, such as hiding a bun under a cap.

Makeup is often kept to a minimum, but sometimes darker makeup is applied around the eyes.

  • Style ranges from boyish cute, to a more mature, often gothic look.
  • The style is unisex.
  • Lolita, gothic, punk and pirate elements are commonly integrated.
  • Common colors are black, and black and white.
  • Headwear includes mini tophats, tophats, bowler hats and mini tricorns.
  • Lolitaesque and pirate-themed prints. Striped, tartan, chessboard and deconstructed fabric patterns.
  • Knickerbockers/shorts are generally worn for a boyish look. For a more mature gothic look, long pants are common. Skorts are common with punk.
  • Gothic and pirate looks may feature long button-decorated coats, and swallowtail jackets.
  • Vests are often worn over shirts and blouses.
  • Ruffled/plain shirts and blouses, often decorated with a cravat, jabot or large ribbon.
  • Knee/overknee socks are commonly worn together with knickerbockers to complete the boyish look.
  • Accessories include capes, cravats, ties, suspenders, chains, studded belts, safety pins, normal belts, canes, guns and treasure chests.
  • Shoes range from platform shoes with wooden soles, to tall gothic platform boots. Heels are common for both men and women.

Most Lolitas i know tend to call it dandy rather than kodona, probably cause dandy is an actical victorian term for this type of effeminate man,

when i first started dandy was an option for people but due to the lack of defined brands for dandy it wasn't really seen that often.
lately dandy has become very poplar, i think for a number of reasons, one being that there is now a brand that caters to dandy which is Baby's sub brand Alice and the pirates, which caters to pirate, dandy, EGL, steam punk.

ever since Alice and the pirates started the sub styles that it caters to have become majorly poplar which goes to show how big an influence Baby is in Lolita.

two the current trend toward a boyish andro looking style.

I thought this sweet with a little casual verison of dandy was really cute, though id probably use dandy shorts instead of skinny jeans

♥Aristocrat♥

Aristocrat (a.k.a. Elegant Gothic Aristocrat or EGA)

This style is a lot more mature than lolita in general. It has a lot in common with the western 'Romantic Gothic'. In general, there are no cutesy motifs (prints, lace, over-abundance of frills, bows, etc). Skirts are often worn long, although sometimes they can be shorter, especially in the hotter months. High corseted waists on skirts is common, so are actual corsets (all types). Fitted jackets with tail coats are popular, so are frilly shirts (and cravats), top hats, veils, etc.
An Aristocrat's hair is usually done in a mature style. Buns and other lifted styles are common, however it is okay to wear your hair down, short and/or curly (try to avoid lolita-like barrel curls though). Extreme hairstyles are usually done in conjunction with extreme make-up, usually for things like fashion shows. Often times it's much too troublesome to go to such lengths for daily wear.
Make-up is also usually mature and sometimes on the darker side. Extreme makeup is usually not done (except for special circumstances such as fashion shows and club events). Somewhat darkened eyes and dark red lipstick is common. Lighter colors can be used, but generally only on the lips.
This style can be worn by men and women easily, often this is a very good style for men to take up if they want to dress up too.

♥Punk Lolita♥

♥Punk Lolita♥

Punk Lolita is perhaps one of the most challenging styles of Lolita to pull-off, because it takes someone with a lot of knowledge of Lolita fashion to be able to fuse the image of a Lolita with that of the Eastern punk style.

Punk lolita comes generally in two forms, first is an outfit that conforms to the general shape of lolita, a bell shape knee length skirt (or a bit shorter for this style) but without as many clean lines as the other styles. Accessories and fabric choice are very important to this style: deconstructed fabrics and fishnets are a good choice, as are chains and studs. Also layering is key to this style! A Punk Lolita outfit is not simple; wearing a studded belt over your skirt doesn't make your outfit punk just as wearing a plaid fabric doesn't make your outfit punk.

The second form of Punk Lolita is an outfit that has a lighter feeling than a normal punk outfit and takes considerable inspiration from the Lolita style but doesn't quite conform to the general shape. It is a much girlier punk outfit with frills or bows. Though skirts may not be knee length and bell shaped shaped they are still not skin tight and crotch length.

Makeup of course can be a bit heavier for Punk style than with the Sweet or Classic styles.

As you could probably tell it's hard to explain the nuances of Punk Lolita and must be something you come to understand over time (or not). This is the only lolita style where big stompy boots really fit, but honestly any shoes work for punk lolita so long as you have other lolita elements in your outfit. Though keep in mind you'll probably look a little ridiculous to real punks, so be carefull going to concerts
